Library Foundation Director
Annual salary range: $47,486 to $65,208
The City of Cedar Rapids is currently recruiting for a Library Foundation Director. This position
will be in charge of fund development, including but not limited to the
development and implementation of the Foundation’s comprehensive fundraising
strategies, capital campaign, event management and solicitations. The Foundation
Director is responsible for the cultivation and maintenance of communications
and outreach to current and potential donors. The successful candidate will
possess considerable experience in development and fundraising; previous work
with Foundations and libraries is a plus. Minimum educational requirement:
bachelor’s degree from accredited university or college. Benefits provided
through the City. The work schedule for this position is 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. Hours may vary for special projects or events. Salary will be based on experience and qualifications.

This position requires:
- Thorough knowledge of fundraising practices and procedures, including grant writing and major gift solicitation
- Thorough knowledge of the public relations function of promoting a public institution and/or non-profit organization such as the Foundation
- Good knowledge of library processes, policies, procedures and collections and/or the willingness to learn the same
- Ability to effectively coordinate and develop volunteer services
- Ability to operate a personal computer using program applications appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities
- Ability to work cooperatively and to maintain effective working relationships to accomplish job responsibilities
- Ability to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology
Job duties for this position include (but are not limited to):
Fund Development:
- Develops and implements the Foundation’s comprehensive short and long-term fundraising strategies, including fundraising, campaigns and events, donor gift solicitation, grant solicitation, endowments and planned giving opportunities
- Cultivates and maintains communications with current and potential donors of the Foundation
- Participates in the development of a strategic plan for the Foundation and oversees the plan
- Evaluates and reports all fundraising activities and solicitation programs to the Board or appropriate committee
- Fosters continued giving by formally and personally acknowledging funding support and supporters via public announcement, written letter or gift in a timely fashion
- Works collaboratively with the Library Director to identify, strategize and seek additional funding, determining which entity (Library or Foundation) is the optimal applying entity
Personnel, Administrative and Financial Management:
- Regularly attends Foundation Board meetings and functions, including special events
- Assists in the recruitment, orientation and development of Board members
- Stays informed regarding activities of the various Foundation committees
- Spearheads volunteer efforts on behalf of the Foundation
- Works with the Finance Committee in developing, implementing and monitoring sound financial strategies and budgets
- Ensures management and administration of financial transactions, gifts and grants
- Maintains official records, documents and filings to comply with federal, state and local regulations
- Ensures the accurate and timely maintenance of legal, financial and insurance records and documents
- Oversees the funding support and disbursement of grants and gifts to the Cedar Rapids Public Library
- Performs all work, duties, and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures and safety practices
Public Relations, Marketing and Advocacy::
- Attends and represents the Foundation at Library Board of Trustees’ meetings
- Serves as a liaison between the Foundation Board and the Board of Trustees and the Library Director
- Promotes and maintains a positive working relationship with the leadership and management of the Cedar Rapids Public Library
- Promotes and maintains a positive working relationship with the Friends of the Cedar Rapids Public Library
- Maintains an ongoing relationship with current donors to ensure their satisfaction and ongoing relationship with the Public Library, the Foundation and to gather information on procedures for future planned giving programs
- Responds to public comments and requests on behalf of the Foundation
- Serves as an ambassador for the Foundation at various civic, school and all other community functions and ceremonies
- Coordinates and develops marketing materials for the Foundation.
Required Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations or a closely related field; and Considerable experience in development and fundraising and experience in communications, marketing or public relations; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
