Computer Information Systems Analyst (Library)

The City of Cedar Rapids is currently recruiting for a Computer Information Systems Analyst for the Cedar Rapids Public Library. This position will provide technical support for the operation and maintenance of the Cedar Rapids Public Library computers and servers; various internal and external networks and other computer information systems. The position requires employee to carrying a Cell Phone and to be available for after hours calls.

This position requires:

  • Thorough knowledge of the functions and operations of the Cedar Rapids Public Library
  • Thorough knowledge of hardware and computer operating systems including but not limited to Microsoft Windows XP Workstation Professional, Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0, Sun Solaris UNIX Server 9.0, and Macintosh OS;
  • Thorough knowledge of software including Microsoft Office Suite, Filemaker database applications;
  • Thorough knowledge of network design including Local Area Network (LAN), and Wide Area Networks (WAN), Internet connectivity including ADSL and Frame Relay;
  • Thorough knowledge of Cisco PIX firewall management practices and procedures;
  • Thorough knowledge of network administration practices and procedures;
  • Ability to train others in computer operations and the use of software applications including Unicorn Workflows, iBistro, Microsoft Office Suite, Filemaker, Citrix, Pharos and other library related utilities;
  • Ability to recognize departmental needs and design automated data systems;
  • Ability to install new computers, hardware and software;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain working relationships with department heads, other City employees, other libraries, outside vendors and the public;
  • Ability to prepare accurate and reliable reports containing findings, recommendations and conclusions on computer operations and software applications;
  • Ability to recommend, design and implement new software to fit the specific needs of the Cedar Rapids Public Library and its computer users;

    • Educational requirements:

    A Bachelor's Degree in Information Services, Computer Science or a closely related field preferred with a considerable amount of experience working with computer software, hardware and operations systems, web firewall management, and WAN connectivity at an advanced level. Some computer software training experience and prior experience in a library setting is preferred. Individuals with a combination of education and experience who can perform the required job functions will also be considered.
    Microsoft Certification preferred



    Salary is based on experience and education, the current range is $49,795 to $68,390 per year.
