Communications Liaison

The City of Cedar Rapids is looking for an experienced Communications Liaison to interact with and represent the City Manager, Mayor and Council Members by handling media relations and communications planning for the City.  This position will report directly to the City Manager.

This position requires:

  • Knowledge of Local government
  • Knowledge of all types of strategic communications
  • Knowledge of marketing strategies related to increasing brand recognition
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to positively represent the City while interacting with a variety of stakeholders; including media representatives, elected officials, Council members, City employees and citizens.

Examples of work performed:

  • Management of all communication related to the City
  • Analysis of public knowledge relating to City departments and programs
  • Maximizing Community awareness of services and their value
  • Standardization of City communications
  • Interaction with a wide variety of diverse community groups, neighborhood associations, church groups, and professional associations
  • Research of administrative and municipal issues at the request of the City Manager
  • Development and delivery of presentations


  • Salary is based on experience and qualifications the current annual wage range is from $54,932 to $75,400
