Rental Housing Inspection Fees

Please note that the City of Cedar Rapids requires that all rental housing have a Certificate of Compliance in order to be legally occupied. This Certificate is issued when the property is in compliance with the applicable provisions of the Housing Code and when all registration and inspection charges related to the property have been paid in full.

Inspection fees as of January 1, 2005 are as follows:

Registrations:

• Regular Fee (Each structure or individual condo units) $50.00
• Investigative Fee (An investigative fee shall be collected in addition to the regular registration fee for all rental properties not currently registered or those not registered within 30 days of purchase or transfer of title) $50.00

Valid Complaint Inspections

• Each structure, dwelling unit, rooming unit or individual condo unit in violation (additional charges will be added for each reinspection) $100.00

Initial Inspections - includes one reinspection:

• Single-family dwelling, individual condo unit or owner-occupied duplex: $75.00
  
• Duplex (both units rental): $100.00
  
• Multiple-family dwelling (structure plus unit fee): $80.00
  Each dwelling/rooming Unit within a structure: $20.00
  
  Note: A 50% discount will be allowed on each dwelling/rooming unit found to be in compliance with the Housing Code at the time of the initial inspection.)
  
  

Subsequent Reinspections:

• Single-family dwelling, individual condo unit, or duplex: $100.00
  
• Multiple-family dwelling (structure plus unit fee): $100.00
  Each dwelling/rooming Unit within a structure: $24.00
  
  

Trip Charge

• For inability to access entire property: $50.00
  
  

Housing Appeals - Filing Fees
Should you wish to contest any violation, you may submit an Appeal Request Form requesting a hearing before the Housing Board of Appeals. Any request must be accompanied with the appropriate fees and received in the office of the Housing Code Administration within twenty (20) days of your receipt of the Notice. Failure to request an appeal shall constitute a waiver of your right to hearing and this Notice shall become a final determination and order.

• Initial Application (One Item) - $20.00
  
• Successive Applications (Per Item) - $5.00
  
• Application fees, per structure for each application period, shall not exceed $50.00
