The Cedar Rapids Police Traffic Bureau mission is to help provide safer streets for our community. Officers assigned to the Traffic Bureau will provide traffic law enforcement generally and selectively. General enforcement is performed when the Traffic Enforcement Officers randomly pick sites to check for traffic violations. Selective enforcement is designed to send officers to specific areas such as intersections or areas where a high number of accidents are occurring or responding to citizen complains to specific areas of traffic violations.
The Traffic Bureau also applies and receives grant funds from the Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau to assist with additional traffic enforcement efforts in areas of seatbelt compliance, drunk driving enforcement and child safety seats.
The Traffic Bureau is staffed Monday through Friday by six officers, one Traffic Sergeant. Three officers each will be assigned to one of two shifts from: 6AM - 2 PM and 11AM - 7PM. Assisting in traffic enforcement and accident response is the entire patrol division.
