Cedar Rapids K9 "Collar" the Awards
at the 2011 K9 Olympics
The Cedar Rapids Police Deprtment paticipated in the K9 Olympics in September in Indiana. Five handlers competed and certified at the K9 Olympics that included 9 narcotic and 9 patrol events. The officers and their partner participated in teams as well as individual events. The competition included 99 K9's from across the United States and several other countries as well.
Officer Chris Bieber (his partner Jenks), Officer Curt Buckles ( his partner Narco), and Officer Al Fear (his partner Marco) were on a team. Officer Brian Nachazel (his partner Lucky) and Officer Shawn Hall (his partner Cooper) partnered with a Broward County Sherif's Deputy to form another team.
The Cedar Rapids Police is very proud of the accomplishments of our K9 division. They are a very dedicated and professional Division. It is through this determination and highly motivated Officers that they were able to acheive these awards.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department currently utilizes seven canine teams. All Cedar Rapids Police K-9's are trained at the Vohne Liche Kennels in Indiana. Please visit their website for more information.
Officer Shawn Hall and Cooper
Canine Cooper is a Dutch Shepard from Holland. Officer Hall and Canine Cooper have been working together since March 2011. Cooper is a dual purpose narcotics dog, trained in detecting several types of narcotics as well as handler protection, tracking, criminal apprehension and building and open area searches.
Officer Al Fear and Marco
Marco is a Belgian Malinois who began working with Officer Fear in March of 2008. Marco is from Holland and is trained as a dual-purpose K9 in both narcotics detection and patrol work which includes tracking, apprehension and area searches.
Officer Brian Nachazel and Lucky
Lucky is a Belgian Malinois who was imported from Holland. Lucky began working for the Cedar Rapids Police Department in March of 2008 after completing the standard 5-week training course in Indiana. Lucky is trained as a dual-purpose K9 in both narcotics detection as well as patrol work.
Officer Casey Bilden and Yoeri
Yoeri is a Belgian Malinois.
Officer Curt Buckles and Narco
Narco is a Belgian Malinois.
Officer Chris Bieber and Jenks
Jenks is a Dutch Shepherd from the Netherlands. Jenks became an Officer for the Cedar Rapids Police Department in September 2009. He is a dual purpose narcotic dog trained in narcotic detection as well as handler protection, search (building and open area), tracking, and apprehension.
