Wellness

Wellness is the state of optimal well-being, not simply the absence of illness, but an improved quality of life resulting from enhanced physical, mental, and spiritual health.  The Human Resources Wellness Program was developed to promote an environment that empowers our employees to make positive lifestyle choices.  We engage and encourage our employees by providing educational services, interactive web tools and individual health screenings.  Thus helping to improve their health and fitness for a better quality of life, increased job satisfaction and morale, while reducing health care costs and achieving a more productive workforce.

The City of Cedar Rapids offers the following benefits as part of our commitment to employee wellness:

  • Annual personal health screenings conducted by an outside, confidential vendor at City locations for employees and their spouses
  • Annual flu shots for employees and spouses
  • Reduced fitness center memberships
  • Smoke free work environment, and smoking cessation classes
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through Mercy Medical Center
