The 2012-2013 Urban Deer Hunt will be held from September 15, 2012 through January 20, 2013.
The City of Cedar Rapids is continuing its annual Urban Deer Hunt for the 2012-2013 season as authorized by Resolution No. 0762-09-07 (signed September 5, 2007).
Hunting permits are required and will be issued after successful completion of the following:

Attend a (one-time only) 8-hour Iowa Bow Hunter's Safety Course.
For more information about the course and available dates, contact the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. PLEASE NOTE: An additional September 8th class has been added.

Complete an Urban Deer Management application available at Dick's Sporting Goods, Gander Mountain, Palo Outdoors, Affinity Archery or the Central Fire Station (1010 1st Street NW).

Complete an annual proficiency certification test at Palo Outdoors, 1204 1st Street, Palo or Affinity Archery, 711 Center Point Road NE, Cedar Rapids. The proficiency certification test must be taken at the location that the hunter attends the orientation session. The proficiency test should be completed prior to the orientation session.

Attend the Urban Deer Hunt Rules and Regulations Class (required of all hunters each season):
Hunters must attend one of the Rules and Regulations classes – no exceptions.
Orientation sessions are scheduled for 90 minutes and are scheduled as follows:
Wednesday, August 22nd - 6:00-7:30 PM - Palo Outdoors
Tuesday, August 28th - 6:00-7:30 PM - Affinity Archery
Saturday, September 8th - 9:00-10:30 AM - Palo Outdoors
Wednesday, September 12th - 6:00-7:30 PM - Affinity Archery
Saturday, September 22nd - 9:00-10:30 AM - Palo Outdoors

For an Urban Bow Hunt permit to be issued at one of the Rules and Regulations sessions, you need to bring the following:
(no exceptions will be made)
· A state issued photo ID/Driver’s License.
· An Iowa hunting license for 2012 with habitat fee paid.
· Bow Hunters Safety card/certificate. This can be obtained from the Iowa
DNR if you have lost, destroyed or misplaced your copy. We will also
honor another state-issued bow hunter safety card or certificate as long as
you provide a hard copy of the card or certificate.
· A completed proficiency archery test, which is completed at Palo
Outdoors or Affinity Archery. The proficiency certificate is included in
the application packet that you may download from this Website.
· A completed and signed Urban Bow hunt application.
The following are items that are required by the bow hunter to participate in the deer hunt, however these items do not need to be completed before the orientation sessions or to receive a Cedar Rapids Urban Deer Management Permit.
· Deer tag(s) for the City of Cedar Rapids Urban Bow Hunt.
· An area or multiple areas to bow hunt inside the corporate city limits of
Cedar Rapids.
· A completed land owners permission form. One form is required for each
address that the bow hunter hunts upon.
Please note that City-owned property is currently NOT available for hunting.
Hunting permits will be issued at the end of the Urban Deer Management Program Rules and Regulations Class, provided all other bulleted items above have been completed.
