Cedar Rapids was rapidly expanding its neighborhoods in the “Baby Boom” era of the 1950’s. Phenomenal growth led to the need to create many new           neighborhood fire stations. In early 1959, the public voted on a bond issue to create a new Cedar Rapids Fire Station Number 8 to be located at 2247 Williams Boulevard SW. The estimated cost in 1959 was $137,000. The bond was approved, and the new fire station was opened by the end of 1959. It was conveniently located along what was then Highway 149. It had a unique two-story  design to accommodate the elevation of the lot. In the 1980’s, the fire station was sold and converted into a residence.
