Who decides to cancel a concert and when?
The Cedar Rapids Municipal Band's Business Manager and Comission Chair will decide whether to cancel a concert due to rain or extreme heat. In cases of extreme heat, a decision to cancel may be announced by late afternoon. However, rain cancellations WILL NOT be made before 5:30pm. In most cases of wet weather a decision to cancel the concert will not be made until just before the concert is scheduled to begin, unless the short term forcast shows, with a high level of confidence, that rain will continue through the start time of the concert.
Why do you cancel?
Heat-related cancelations are made to protect the health of our patrons and our band members. Rain cancelations are called to help protect the instruments that are succeptible to damage from rain. In many cases, those instruments are property of the band members, not the Municipal Band. In addition, rain cancelations help to protect expensive sound reinforcement electrontics used at each concert. The understanding of our patrons is appreciated.
What about the July 4th Concert?
The Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival staff, not Municipal Band staff, will make a decision on the July 4th concert, if needed. Please stay tuned to local television and radio broadcasts for details on the July 4 concert at Mays Island.
Where can I find out about canceled concerts?
Cancelation information is broadcast by our radio sponsor, KMRY - 1450 AM. It is also added to this page on our Web site and posted on the voicemail hotline for the band at: 319-399-8520 - option 8. NOTE: If the cancelation is made less than an hour before the performance, it will likely not be updated online because our web staff will already be on site setting up for the performance.
