City of Cedar Rapids Legislative Requests
The Cedar Rapids City Council compiles a list of state and federal legislative requests each year. These requests are shared with the City's state and federal lobbyists, as well as the local legislative and congressional delegations, to help the City of Cedar Rapids fulfill its vision to be a beacon for people and businesses invested in building a greater community for the next generation.
Federal Legislative Requests
Each year, the City Council reviews and compiles a list of federal appropriations requests, largely based on Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) of high importance to the City of Cedar Rapids. The council works with each congressional delegation to submit these requests to the U.S. Congress. These requests do not ensure funding.

State Legislative Requests
Each year, the City Council and City staff members create a list of state legislative requests, asking for funding for assistance programs, as well as changes in legislation, to help the citizens of Cedar Rapids. Most of these assistance programs are funded through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. This program is administered by the State of Iowa. Due to the historic Flood of 2008, the City also makes specific requests important to its disaster recovery efforts.
