Traffic Problems Everywhere today
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - October 28, 2009 - Today was filled with traffic problems. The first began at about 6:30 a.m. at Jacolyn Dr and 16 Ave SW. A 2007 Nissan Versa, driven by Carol Trester/61 of Vinton, was westbound on 16 Ave SW. A 2002 AIH motorcycle, driven by Steven Burgess/52, of Cedar Rapids, was southbound on Jacolyn Dr SW. The motorcycle pulled out in front of the car and was struck. Burgess was taken by ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital and then on to the University of Iowa Hospitals. His condition is unknown at this time but it does not appear to be life threatening. The crash is still under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
At about 11:11 a.m. contractors, working for Alliant Energy, were burying up to 5 utilities as part of a street widening project. Tim Tereller struck a 4" gas line in the 4300 blk of 1 Ave SE. Traffic was diverted for about 4 hours. First Ave was opened again at about 3:00 p.m.
At about 2:40 p.m.p.m., the Cedar Rapids Police responded to a personal injury accident at Wilson Ave and 26 St SW. When officers arrived, they found Miles Wyatt/20, of Cedar Rapids, was eastbound on Wilson Ave SW, driving a '03 Saturn and was attempting to turn left onto 26 St. A 2000 Dodge van, driven by Ashley Arenz of Hiawatha, was also eastbound on Wilson and did not yield to Wyatt's stopped vehicle and Arenz struck the back of Wyatt's vehicle. Arenz was taken to St. Luke's Hospital with what appears to be minor injuries. The crash is still under investigation.
All criminal charges are merely an accusation and the defendants is presumed innocent until and unless they are proven guilt.
