For Immediate Release: Friday, October 23, 2009 Contact: Kim Greene Phone: 319-286-5080 City Seeks Grants & Program Citizen Advisory Committee Members
The Cedar Rapids Mayor and City Council request citizen participation in Cedar Rapids local government. Applications are being accepted for the five vacancies on the Grants & Program Citizen Advisory Committee. This is a one year commitment expiring November 30, 2010 and most meetings taking place in January and February 2010. The remaining eight members of this Committee are appointed by the neighborhood associations representing the Community Development Block Grant neighborhoods (5), the Local Homeless Coordinating Board (1), the Affordable Housing Commission (1) and the Chamber of Commerce (1). Applications are DUE on or before Friday, November 13, 2009 at 5 PM.
The Grants and Programs Committee is an informal advisory group of volunteers which principally reviews proposals submitted to the City for financial assistance from the Federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnership Programs. In its advisory capacity, it recommends to the City Council which activities should be funded and for how much. This is done to satisfy requirements of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as part of its "Consolidated Planning" effort (i.e., merger of the entitlement programs into a single budgetary / planning process).
Please contact Paula Mitchell with questions regarding this committee, 319-286-5852.
