Be on the look-out for the look-out

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - October 22, 2009 - The Cedar Rapids Police Department continues to have the number of Burglary reports down for the month of October. There were 90 reports taken from October 1 - 22, 2008. There have only been 61 burglaries during this same time period this year. Our department is still not happy with this number of burglaries and is asking for the public's help in reducing the number even more.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department has noticed an increase in number of reported "look-outs" related to burglaries. This has been reported in both the daytime burglaries as well as those reported at night. There have been several neighbors of victims of burglaries this month that have reported seeing someone loitering around the neighborhood that does not belong. An example of this is one neighbor reported seeing a woman pushing a baby carriage but there was no baby inside.

We are asking that neighbors look-out for the look-out. If you happen to look out of your window and see someone loitering around that does not belong in your neighborhood, call the police at the non-emergency number of 286-5491. If you see a suspicious vehicle, write down the license plate, description of the car and driver. If your neighborhood does have a burglary, you could have the lead the police need to making an arrest!
