City Focuses on Building Sustainable Community - Residents Invited to Attend Open House on Thursday
The City of Cedar Rapids invites all residents to join its effort to build a more sustainable community. As part of the ongoing Citywide Energy Efficiency and Conservation Study, the City is hosting an open house this Thursday, October 22, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Carl & Mary Koehler History Center, located at 615 1st Avenue SE.
The public is invited to attend this open house and comment on energy management opportunities, alternative energy options and energy efficient building initiatives. In addition, the City will provide more information about technologies that generate electricity or steam from alternative fuels and the energy use of the city and the entire community.

This is the second of three open houses to identify and evaluate strategies for a more energy efficient and sustainable future for Cedar Rapids. The Citywide Energy Efficiency and Conservation Study is primarily funded with grants from the United States Department of Energy and the Iowa Office of Energy Independence, and is focused on three main outcomes:
1. Improved Energy Efficiency (Energy Management) community wide
2. Alternative Energy Options, including waste to energy, solar, and wind
3. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Policies for rebuilding of Community Buildings, including Major City Buildings and Facilities
