Residential 2008 Flood Debris Ending Soon

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - October 20, 2009 - The City extends a big "THANK YOU" to all the dedicated volunteers who have assisted in mucking and gutting an additional 50 homes in the flood affected area over the past two months and who are continuing to muck and gut other homes in an attempt to clean up as many properties as possible before the end of flood debris collection.

The City of Cedar Rapids Solid Waste and Recycling Division reminds all 2008 residential flood affected residents that residential flood debris collection will be ending within the next few weeks. In order to provide for the timely collection of any remaining flood debris, 2008 residential flood affected residents must have all of their flood debris placed out for collection by October 31, 2009.

Remember, flood debris must be segregated into the following piles;

Appliances
- Fridges, stoves, dishwashers, microwaves, washers, dryers, freezers, window and central air conditioners, water heaters, furnaces, dehumidifiers.

Household Hazardous waste
- Paints (latex and oil based), solvents, cleaning solvents, gasoline, oils, pesticides, fertilizers,

Electronics
- Computers, stereos, VCR's, DVD players, toaster ovens.

Scrap Metal
- Pots and pans, shelves, BBQ's, exercise equipment, patio furniture, chairs, etc.

Garbage
- Furniture, household belongings, damaged drywall, plaster, wood lathing, wood decking, playhouses, kid's toys, etc.
