2nd Walk for community
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - September 11, 2009 - The 2nd Walk for Community is scheduled for Thursday, September 24, 2009. Just like the first walk, this walk is being organized by several agencies and concerned citizens to bring the community together, raise awareness and to show those who commit crimes that the community is tired of the crime. "You don't have to move to live in a better neighborhood" is the theme, with the slogan "Step Up" as the driving force. Added to this walk will be over 25 services and agencies that provide programs for our community. These "resources" will be around the parking lot of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
The event will begin at 5:00 PM with a barbeque at St. Paul's United Methodist 2nd Avenue Parking lot. Beef hamburgers, beef hot dogs and pork bratwurst will be provided along with chips, and a drink. HyVee, Frito Lay, Pepsi, Sara Lee and the First Avenue Uptown College District will sponsor the food for this event.
We will continue showing our support for the community at 6:00 PM by walking through the Heart of the City on the East Side. The walk will be 16 blocks long. Since crime doesn't stop just because of rain, this event won't either.
Attached is a flyer for the event. The media provided great coverage for our last event May 7, 2009. We hope to see you there again for the free food, good times and to "Step Up" and be part of the community.
