Our CR magazine is made up of two sections stapled together. The outside section, known as the City news section, includes news and information from multiple City departments and divisions. The inside section is the Parks & Recreation Department's seasonal "PLAY!" guide. The guide can be separated from the outside section for easy reference.
The seasonal magazine is mailed to more than 65,000 households (single family homes, condominiums, apartments, etc.) and businesses in Cedar Rapids, Robins, Hiawatha and surrounding communities that benefit from the services provided by the City of Cedar Rapids.
Mailing Our CR
Our CR is mailed using a saturation mailing method where the publication is delivered by mail carriers to every household on their route. It's addressed to "Postal Customer," not individual addresses. This is the most cost effective way to mail a publication of this kind.
Therefore, we cannot remove individual addresses from the mailing list because we do not want to pay for a significantly more expensive mailing method.
Printing Our CR
Our CR magazine is printed by Walsworth Publishing in Michigan. The City received printing bids from several local and out-of-state companies. Walsworth provided the lowest bid.
Budget for Our CR
It costs approximately $60,000 to design, produce, print and mail each issue of Our CR to more than 65,000 households and businesses. That means each issue costs about 92-cents per household.
The City combined the budgets of seven City publications sent to citizens throughout the year to fund this seasonal newsletter, in addition to securing advertising sponsorships.
