Cedar Rapids, IA – October 3, 2013 – Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation Department is offering several special Halloween events during the month of October that will appeal to a wide range of ages and interests. They are Harvest Hayrack Nights, Safe Halloween for Kids, Night at Ushers Scary, Spooky Swim at Bender Pool, and the annual Special Populations Halloween Dance.
Visitors of all ages are invited to Ushers Ferry on Wednesday, October 9 and October 23 at 7:00 p.m. for “Harvest Hayrack Night.” Participants will take a hayrack ride through the valley, drink hot cocoa around a bonfire, make a craft and enjoy other old-fashioned fall fun. Admission per night is $9 Adult and $5 Child (2-12 yrs.). Admission is free for those under age 2.
The popular “Safe Halloween for Kids” is Sunday, October 20 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. This old-fashioned Halloween event at Ushers Ferry Historic Village includes trick-or-treating, games and costume contests. Visitors are encouraged to bring a decorated pumpkin to enter in the jack-o’-lantern contest. Admission is $7 per trick-or-treater. Advance registration is encouraged, but not required.
It’s All Hallows Eve at Ushers Ferry’s “Night at Ushers Scary.” Join the shadowy denizens of the village for a spooky guided candlelight tour on Friday, October 25 and on Saturday, October 26 from 7:00-10:00 p.m. It’s an opportunity to be really scared, have a great time, and learn a little history as well. Admission is $13 per person per night and is recommended for ages 15 and up.
Celebrate Halloween with a splash at the annual “Spooky Swim” at Bender Pool for ages 5-14 on Friday, October 25 from 6:00-8:30 p.m. In addition to enjoying fun games and relays, participants will receive a bag of treats as they leave. Admission is $5.50 per participant at the door. Swim passes are not accepted.
The 22nd annual “Special Populations Halloween Dance” co-sponsored with the ARC of East Central Iowa will be held Friday, October 25 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at St. Wenceslaus Church, Glovik Parish Center, 1224 5th Street SE. People of all ages and abilities are welcome to attend and wear a costume. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes. Admission is $5 per person at the door.
