Body

As Cedar Rapidians continue to clean up from Friday’s storm and high winds, the Solid Waste and Recycling Division wants to remind customers of  the proper set out requirements for downed branches, limbs and brush that will assist crews with the expeditious collection of the yard waste.

  1. Solid Waste and Recycling Customers who have smaller limbs, branches and brush should cut them up so the material fits completely inside the YARDY carts with the lid closed.  YARDY carts are collected year round.  YARDY carts with limbs and branches sticking out over the top of them will not be picked up as the collection trucks cannot physically empty the cart.

  1. Branches, limbs, and brush can also be cut and tied into bundles that measure no larger than 3 feet long by 2 feet around and weigh no more than 40 pounds.  Bundled branches, brush or limbs must be tied with biodegradable twine.
  2. Tree limbs measuring less than 5” in diameter can be cut and tied into bundles that measure no larger than 3 feet long by 2 feet around and weigh no more than 40 pounds.  Bundled limbs must be tied with biodegradable twine.  Bundling limbs help expedite collection.
  3. Place all yard waste out before 7:00 a.m. on your regular garbage collection day for yard waste pick up.
  4. Customers not wishing to bundle up branches, limbs or brush for City Solid Waste and Recycling Division collection can take them to the compost site located at 2250 A Street SW.  Customers will be required to pay the tipping fee when dropping off their branches, limbs or brush.
  5. Customers not wishing to bundle up branches, limbs or brush for City collection or to take them to the compost site can seek assistance with their removal from private tree services.
