Body

Firefighters have located the body of the 28-year old Latino male that was first reported as drowning in the Cedar River on Saturday evening.  Two Cedar Rapids rescue boats had resumed the search for the missing man for a fourth day at 9 a.m. this morning.  Around 11:20 a.m. firefighters found the victim in the water near the east shore of the Cedar River approximately 250 yards south of where the victim was reported to have gone underwater on Saturday.  Firefighters removed the victim from the water and transferred him to Area Ambulance Service.  The victim is being transferred to St. Luke’s Hospital where the Linn County Medical Examiner will make a positive identification of the body.

The drowning occurred approximately one-half mile south of the Roller Dam.  According to witnesses, the victim was attempting to cross the Cedar River from the east side to the west side near a boat ramp, which is located in proximity to the Police Department’ shooting range.

No further information is available at this time.
