One of the sites for the Clean Up CR Drop-off Event planned for this Saturday, October 1st from 10am -2pm has changed. The City of Cedar Rapids will now hold the event at Lot 44 on 2nd Street SE and Rockwell Collins Parking lot at 855 35th St. NE. Residents are asked to enter the Rockwell Collins event from 35th Street.
Last weekend 1,161 vehicles visited the Clean Up CR Drop-Off events collecting over 100 tons of material from residents. The decision to move the drop-off event from St. Paul’s Methodist Church to Rockwell Collins was based upon the overwhelming response from residents, the size of the parking lot available at St. Paul’s and the current road construction in the area limiting the traffic control options. "We would like to thank St. Paul’s Methodist Church for their willingness to partner with the City on this venture and hope we can find opportunities to work together in the future. We would also like to thank Rockwell Collins for hosting this event two weekends in a row. The community support we have received for Clean Up CR has been outstanding," said Mark Jones, Superintendent Cedar Rapids Solid Waste & Recycling.
The location at Lot 44 on 2nd Street SE will continue to collect household hazardous materials. Both locations will accept furniture, clothing, wood waste, electronics, clean garbage cans, scrap metal and tires. Appliances are not accepted at the Drop-off Events and must be taken to either Cedar Rapids/ Linn County Solid Waste Agency location. The Clean Up CR Drop-off events are for Cedar Rapids Residents only. If residents are unable to attend the Clean Up CR Drop-off events, or they do not live in Cedar Rapids, all materials collected at the event are also collected by the Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency throughout the year.
