Cedar Rapids Public Library, 450 5th Ave SE 

Description:

• New 95,000 sq. ft. facility constructed across from Greene Square Park in downtown Cedar Rapids
• The library will be 10,000 sq. ft. larger than the former building
• Project includes an auditorium, café, conference center and roof garden plaza
• Design includes new technology, comfortable seating, interactive programming and gathering spaces

Estimated Timeline:

• November 2011 - Construction began
• Summer 2013 – Construction complete

Funding Sources:

• $27.2 million in FEMA repair funds
• $10 million state I-JOBS grant
• $4 million from Local Option Sales Tax Revenues
• $3 million Hall-Perrine Foundation grant
• $5.3 million from private donations and grants

Building Only Cost Estimate: $26.5 million

Total Project Cost Estimate (land, design and construction): $49.5 million
