Description:

  • The former Central Fire Station was destroyed by the June 2008 flood.  
  • The new facility will serve as the City of Cedar Rapids Emergency Operations Command Center and house the Fire Department administrative offices and training classrooms.
  • An engine, truck, rescue and specialty vehicles will respond from this centralized location.
  • This location will provide ready access to I-380 and First Avenue, which will allow efficient response routes to all areas of the community.

Estimated Timeline:

  • July 2012 - Construction begins
  • Summer 2013 - Construction complete

Funding Sources:

  • $5 million state I-JOBS grant
  • $14.4 million FEMA repair funds
