Central Fire Station, 713 1st Avenue SE
Description:
The former Central Fire Station was destroyed by the June 2008 flood.
The new facility will serve as the City of Cedar Rapids Emergency Operations Command Center and house the Fire Department administrative offices and training classrooms.
An engine, truck, rescue and specialty vehicles will respond from this centralized location.
This location will provide ready access to I-380 and First Avenue, which will allow efficient response routes to all areas of the community.
Estimated Timeline:
July 2012 - Construction begins
Summer 2013 - Construction complete
Funding Sources:
$5 million state I-JOBS grant
$14.4 million FEMA repair funds
Project Cost Estimate: $19.4 million
