Keep your New Year's resolution

Stay committed to keeping your New Year’s resolution this year! You don’t have to be intimidated at a gym, we have many creative ways to keep you active and healthy.

Get your groove on in a weekly Zumba class that meets at the Northwest Recreation Center, or keep fit while learning to dance. You can learn the basics of ballroom dance including the swing, rumba, waltz, foxtrot and two-step. A partner is preferred for this class. If you are on your own or really want to try something new, learn the basics of belly dance. This class taught by SanDee Skelton is a longtime favorite and certain to keep 2018 unique.

If just putting one foot in front of the other is more your style, drop by the recreation center and walk indoors in the gym until the weather turns warm again. The Walking Club meets weekdays from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and costs $1 per day. Find us at 1340 11th Street NW.

If contact sports are more your game, join an adult basketball league and play one game a week on Sunday, Monday or Thursday from January 25 through March 8. You can register as a team or ask to be placed on one. Games are scheduled from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Northwest Recreation Center. Those with commitment phobias can stop in during open gym times at Kennedy and Washington High Schools. The NW Recreation Center also open gym times on Saturdays from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. and Sundays from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Find the entire list of open gym times at cryouthsports.com.

Finally if just chilling is really where you are at, take Gentle Yoga on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. This class will make you stronger, more flexible and balanced in both body and mind. February and March will feature a series of classes including Meditation, Meditation and Guided Imagery, Head and Neck Massage, and Reflexology that will keep you relaxed and stress free throughout 2018.

For more information about any of these programs, find the Play Guide at crrec.org, or call us at 286-5566. We are looking forward to seeing you this year.
