City Partners with Iowa BIG for Social Media Takeover Day

The City of Cedar Rapids has partnered with students in the Cedar Rapids Iowa BIG program to host a Social Media Takeover Day. Starting at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, May 26, and throughout the day, the City of Cedar Rapids Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts will feature content created by high school students, for high school students and young adults.

Social Media Takeover Day is part the City’s #CRYOUth initiative, with the goal of creating opportunities for Cedar Rapids youth in the areas of education, employment and engagement.

Brooke Bio:
Brooke, Iowa BIG student
My name is Brooke McNeal and I am a student at Iowa BIG and Kennedy High School. My team and I at Iowa BIG partnered with the city to produce a Take Over Day in which we choose what is posted on the City’s social media platforms for a day. I chose this project because of the interest I have in our city and the youth’s role in our city. Our mission through the Take Over Day is to better connect the city with its adolescents.

Maya Bio:
Maya G

My name is Maya Gonlubol and I just ended my senior year at Iowa BIG. I work alongside Brooke on the Cedar Rapids Social Media project and am so excited to finally be a part of Take Over Day! I have a passion for humans and for the community connection Cedar Rapids is constantly improving on. Throughout the day we’ll be posting highlights from around the city to ultimately try and engage more young people with the good things happening around Cedar Rapids.
