Volunteer

We invite you to join the shelter's growing volunteer program that is making a difference in the everyday lives of the city's homeless animal population.  The program's most significant achievement is the increase in over 690 adoptions in 2007, compared to 319 in 2006.

The volunteer program is currently recruiting for a wide variety of volunteer opportunities that include feeding, cleaning, grooming, socialization, adoption assistance, dog walking, maintenance, administrative and other duties.  Volunteers must be 14 years old or older and volunteers under the age of 18 must work with adult supervision.

Steps to becoming a volunteer:

  1. Complete and return the signed Volunteer Application and the Volunteer Program Guidelines and Procedures to the Volunteer mailbox or to the shelter address provided on the application.

  2. Attend an orientation and training session.  Volunteer applicants will receive an invitation within 2-3 weeks after receipt of their application.

  3. Attend any additional training required for your specific positions of interest.

For more information, get the date of our next orientation or to follow-up on a volunteer application, please call the shelter.

We look forward to seeing you at the Cedar Rapids Animal Shelter.
